OMG! I am really disappointed

Posted by: Meredith

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?

I am really disappointed that someone who has become a superstar overnight (I know she has done other movies in the past) would be caught doing something like this in public!

I do not hold against her what she is doing, she is 18 years old, and obviously has plenty of money, and is just being a teenager. But what does disappoint me is that she is this new teen idol because of Twilight and she would not consider what the consequences are of other young people who look up to her seeing this.

I'm sure Stephanie Meyer would not want 'Bella' to be caught partaking in an illegal activity. It just doesn't bode well for the Twilight series in my eyes.

I adore the entire Twilight series. I went to see the movie on Sunday with my Hubby and it was OK. I did not fall head over heels in love with it like the book. However, I think this would be impossible because there was no way to get all the detail into the movie as the first book. The movie would have to have been 6 hours long.

Either way, Kristen's PR and the Twilight PR must be losing their minds at the sight of these pictures. And I have heard that Robert Pattinson has been out getting drunk at the clubs in Hollywood every night lately. Yes/No? Even if it's not true, rumors start from somewhere.

I still love Twilight and Stephanie Meyer! Both are genus in my book!

Crazy Schedule Contest!

Posted by: Meredith

I want to know what everyone's schedule is like for this holiday season!

With multiple families to visit, many traveling long distances, so many people to visit this time of the year can become a headache.

This year I am pretty lucky that Hubby J.'s parents will be down here from NY to spend the holiday time. Our Thanksgiving will be fairly easy this year. We will head over to my Sister-in-laws to have lunch with the Sawyer family, eat lots of yummy food, including the chocolate pie with cherries that Little B. gets to help make, and relax and enjoy the family.

Then, just as our tummys begin to feel empty we will head over to my Grandfathers house to spend time with my mom's family. Again, there will be lots of food, and good company. Of course, we will not forget our tradition of somehow steering the conversation at the dinner table to the topic of poop. Don't ask me how this happens, but it does. Family outsiders think we are crazy, (the conversation is never that bad, it could be as innocent as asking if Little B. needs his diaper changed because something smells funny) but they see that it is a never fail tradition.

Other years Little B. goes to his father's for Thanksgiving, and if Hubby J.'s family is in NY, we will work my dad's family into the Thanksgiving day mix.

I want to know how crazy your schedule is. The craziest schedule, by my standards, which may be completely subjective, will be the winner. There is no prize to win except the admiration of the rest of us who will keep you in out thoughts and prayers as you deal with a schedule that only a superhero can handle.

Good luck to you all, and please drive safely!

Bottoms Up! At least that's what I call her...

Posted by: Meredith

As I have said before, I have three fish tanks. One of which is a cold water tank for my fantail goldfish. Two of these fish were won at the fair and the other two were purchased. Goldfish can be fairly fragile, despite what most people believe.

Fancy goldfish especially are very likely to have problems with their swim bladder. Because of their shape it's easy for them to become constipate and therefore will fill with gas and float upside down or have trouble swimming and diving to the bottom of the tank. The easy solution to this problem is to feed them peas. 20 minutes later, no more gas.

Well one of the fish I have has mental issues I have determined. Of course, you might expect something like this from a fish that used to hang out with crazy carnies, but this is one of the fish I bought. She, and I have no idea if she is a she or a he, likes to swim upside down for the fun of it. Hubbs and I will glance over every so often and think that she is dead, but never fail she is just playing a trick on us. (Fish aren't supposed to like being upside down.)

I tried to get a video of her doing this as it's sorta cute, but everytime I tried to she would flip over and splash me. Silly girl. So the best I could do is get a couple of pictures.

From 24 hours is never enough!

There's a conspiracy in my house!

Posted by: Meredith

I have decided that the dogs and Brandon are out to get me. When Hubby J. is home with Little B., and I am in school, B. is calm and listens, and the dogs are good too.

When I am home and Hubby J. is at work the house turns into a zoo. And I don't think anyone really believes how crazy it gets. Monday's and Wednesday's I pick up Little B. from school around 4:30 and Hubby J. gets home around 7. By the time 7 rolls around I have that crazed mom look in my eyes and feel like I have been at war, and there is no way to explain what has been going on because it never happens when others are around!

I just got everyone calmed down from today's battle. The dogs were trying to kill each other, Little B. had an atomic diaper that needed changing, I was on the phone; got the diaper changed while the dogs hovered around and Little B. tried to crawl away, ran the stinky to the trash outside, came back into the house to more barking and attacking by the dogs and B. is shoving random objects under the stove while screaming for 'taha'(papa) at the top of his lungs hoping Hubby J. hears him and comes home to play the 'tike'(bike) game on the Xbox.

This kind of stuff never happens when other are around! It makes me think there is a plan between the kid and the animals to drive me so crazy that they take over rule of the house.

What do you have to put up with in your house that only happens to you?

What I thought about Twilight...

Posted by: Meredith

It was good. At first I didn't like that there was so much missing that was so important in the book, but then it kinda grew on me. R.Patt as they call him is not really my cup of tea, but he did a good job. I think the actress playing Bella was a good match. I took my husband to see the movie yesterday and I felt like I had been lying to his as to how fantastic the books were. The books are so detailed you feel like you are in the book. Much of this detail and story line was lost in the movie.

I think that I will appreciate the movie once the next one comes out.

Hope you enjoyed the movie, or will be enjoying it soon.

Happy Monday to all,

I didn't understand 95% of the movie...

Posted by: Meredith

No I am not talking about TWILIGHT! I actually haven't seen Twilight yet, bought my tickets today to see the 12 o'clock showing tomorrow.

I am referring to the movie ONCE. It's a movie from Dublin, Ireland and the accents were so strong I could not understand hardly any of it.

Once is a musical of sorts, in that there is a lot of singing, but it's not like CATS or anything. I added this movie to our Net.Flix list but knew nothing about it. I guess it is a love story, but not in the traditional sense. The ending was all wrong.

I am going to admit that I really don't know what all happened in the movie, with the accents and the appletinis I was enjoying I can't really tell you the story line, but the MUSIC was TERRIFFIC! The guy and girl that play the two main characters actually wrote and performed the music in the movie.

I immediately downloaded all the music from the movie to add to my ipod. I recommend you either rent the movie, or just download the music. Of course, if you are from Ireland, you will probably not have the same issues I did about understanding the conversations.

Thanksgiving crafts for the little ones...

Posted by: Meredith

If your family has little children that will be running around the house causing a ruckus on Thanksgiving day, you might need something to keep them busy...

This adorable turkey is just one paper toy you can find on The Toy Maker website. I stumbled across this website one day an they have so many little toys and activities for children. All the toys are made from paper. All you do is download the PDF file, print the sheet from your computer, and cut and fold where the directions tell you to. They are so easy and fun, and it's made out of paper so it they get messed up, you are not out of a lot of money.

I am going to print out some of these turkeys and a few others and when Little B. is done making them he can help decorate the table.

My Head is Going to Explode!

Posted by: Meredith

I just have to get this off my chest. It's like a bad song that you can't stop thinking about until you tell someone....

I am sitting in a common area at school waiting for class to start and these two dweebs that are in my program are sitting next to me talking about the Supreme Court Justices like they are best friends with all of them! These two people are so annoying I just want to tell them that no one likes them and that they need to stop talking at a volume that the entire school can hear.

USE YOUR LIBRARY VOICES CHILDREN!!!!!

I feel better, thanks for listening.

P.S. Knowing my luck they will find this post and give me the evil eye for the rest of the semester when we pass in the halls. Oh well, at least there will be no face-to-face confrontation.

The day I would write a book about...

Posted by: Meredith

My last Aloha Friday question,'If you could pick just one day of your life to write a book about, which day would it be?', must not have been very interesting because I only received 5 comments!

And a great THANK YOU goes out to those who did take the time to comment.

I didn't answer my own question Friday because I think if I gave you the short answer, 'The day I met my Husband,' it would seem too bland of an answer.

Here is the story behind the day I met my husband, it's pretty spectacular, however, I am not a good writer when it comes to giving lots of details, I can be pretty lazy about details, but you will get the idea...

January of 2007 I was enrolled in an online intro to computers class. (Yes I think it is counter-productive to have an intro to computers class online, but I was not new to computers, just satisfying a requirement for school.) This guy in my class had been asking me for help via the online discussion boards for the class. We began chatting through IM without discussing coursework, and he seemed to be a kinda cool guy.

One night I decided to meet up with this guy at a local bar (I had never met him before, and only knew him from his online photo.) I took my girlfriend for 1) safety, 2) so I would have someone to talk to, and possible help with a quick escape if guy turned out to be not cool.

As soon as guy walked into the bar, before he made his way to our table, I was trying to convince my girlfriend that we should run out the back exit never to return. Lucky for me she made me stay. Guy sat beside my friend, and became the most uncool person in the world. 1) he looked nothing like his online photos, they were obviously from a long time ago, 2) after almost every sentence spoken by any of the three of us, his response was "It happens."

When I asked why he said this all the time his response was that it was nicer than saying Shit Happens. O what a gentleman he was. My girlfriend must have found this endearing because we were hooked into going to his house, way out in the boon docks (I know this was not smart of two girls) and attend the bonfire party his roommates were having. Oh yeah, there was a keg, so the beer would be free!

Once at this party I immediately wanted to leave because the smell of marijuana did not please me. Again, I was a pushover and my girlfriend convinced me to stay. And thank God she did...

There he was...

I walked over to where my girlfriend was talking to this guy, a super hot guy by the way, and I was not a very good friend to her because I just pushed her out of the way so I could meet this hottie! What a night.

We stood by the bonfire, laughing at the drunk people, freezing our butts off (it was January and very cold, below freezing if I remember correctly), and chatting like we had known each other forever. Just remembering it makes my heart go pitter patter. He even shared his gloves with me. We talked until past 3am.

Two weeks later we had our first date, and six months after that we were married!

Today's Writing Post: LIsten

Posted by: Meredith

From The One-Minute Writer:

Listen. Write about what you hear, right now.

My 1 minute writing:
I hear my Little B. coughing and wimpering for papa to play the bike game. (A motorcycle racing game that Little B. has fallen in love with.) I hear the filters of the fish tanks running and the air pumps creating a constant stream of bubbles for the fish to play in. I hear the dogs barking while Hubby J. tries to get the puppy to leave Chewy alone. I hear what every morning in my hectic house sounds like.

If you go over to The One-Minute Writer and participate in the daily writing prompt, let me know, I would love to hear what you have to say.

Tissues and Toilet Paper....

Posted by: Meredith

My husband needs your help!

When it comes time to open a new box of tissues or replace the empty roll of toilet paper, my husband is fighting his own losing battle.

His questions to you are:

How do you open a box of tissues and only take out one tissue? He seems to be severely upset by the fact that two tissues always come out together.

How do you begin a new roll of tissue without wasting the amount that could be used for a potty break? Again, he is so disturbed by this wastefulness.

When I asked Hubby J. for an off the wall blog topic, because was at a loss for ideas, this is what he gave me. So, if any of you tissue and toilet paper users out there can help, he would appreciate the advice.

From The One-Minute Writer:

Consider the "WORD VERIFICATION" word at the bottom of your comment window. Create a definition for it, and use it in a sentence.

My 1 minute writing:
reflowel: The water that will inevitably come back up into your sink from the dishwasher the day after you try to get rid of excess macaroni by putting it down the disposal.

If you go over to The One-Minute Writer and participate in the daily writing prompt, let me know, I would love to hear what you have to say.

One Minute Weekend...

Posted by: Meredith in

I came across this really neat blog, The One Minute Writer. Subtitle is "You have 1,440 minutes a day. Use one of them to write." Each post is a topic for you to write about for one minute. There is even a timer on the sidebar of the blog. I am going to try to use as many of these topics as possible to strengthen my writing, or even just to have something to write about.

Today's writing prompt: Write about something interesting that happened this weekend.

So here goes, begin my minute right now...

This weekend I went to my parents house to help them copy files off of their Jurassic era computer. This computer has a FLOPPY drive, and no other means of transferring data! I took my thumb drive with me hoping and praying for a USB port. Voila, there are 2 USB ports available. Down side, the Windows 84,000BC version they are running would not recognize my drive. Another idea down the drain. Then I remember Bob and Sheri of 107.9 The Link endorsing Go To My PC as a great service. 3 hours later (due to the DIAL UP internet) the service is installed and ready to go. Off to my house I go to connect via the newly installed service. My ending thoughts on this process are that Go To My PC worked beautifully, if slowly (again due to the dial up internet on their end), but the folks MUST get a new computer!
